John is a veteran of the New England folk scene. He has performed as a studio musician and backup instrumentalist for many New England and Canadian artists. Whether on guitar, cittern, mandolin or hammered dulcimer, John's delicate and precise playing has delighted audiences throughout Vermont and internationally for over 20 years. His new solo recording Just As The Sun Was Setting was performed and produced entirely by John in his studio in South Hero, VT. It is a lively collection of traditional Irish and Scottish melodies as well as several new Celtic compositions by musicians Jerry Holland, John Whelan and Michael Ferrie.

Born in Barre, VT, John began playing the guitar at the age of 5. He became highly proficient on electric guitar during the 1970's and then as an adult perfected his unique style of acoustic guitar. Nurtured by his late wife Martha Pellerin's love of her Quebecois family songs, they performed together promoting Franco-American culture. John contributed to several recordings including: "Entrecroise" by Jeter le Pont and "Mademoiselle Voulez-vous Danser?" a sampler of Franco-American music from the New England borderlands recorded by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings.

Together they organized a children's performing group Les Danse des Enfants. In collaboration with Benoit Bourque (Matapat, Le Vent du Nord), the group performed at major venues including the Flynn Theater, Burlington, VT, the Chandler Opera House, Randolph, VT, The Lebanon NH Opera House and in Drummondville, Quebec.

As Chainon John and Martha were joined by their sons Ian and Eric and toured from Ripton, VT, to Berlin, Germany sharing their passion for traditional music. Their final performance as a family was at Bowdoin College, Lewiston, ME. After Martha's death in 1998 the family donated her collection of thousands of Quebec chansons to the VT Folklife Center in Middlebury, VT.

In recent years John has continued to perform Celtic music with a number of notable artists: Scatter the Mud with Kristina Stykos and Beth Telford; accompanying Juno award winner David Francey at the Wye Marsh Festival in Hudson Bay, Ontario; and stunned the crowd at the New World Festival in a workshop entitled "New Traditions" with his son Eric Drury on mandolin. An original member of Vermont's infamous Ground Hog Opry, he performed for 10 years bringing humor and music to rural Vermont during mudseason. The Opry was featured in an article in VT Life Magazine in the Spring 2003 edition. The band and Opry founder George Woodard enjoyed an unexpected inclusion in a Disney documentary entitled "America's Heart and Soul" released in 2004.

John lives in South Hero, VT with Debbie, his wife of three years, and his daughter Alicia. He has three sons, Ian, Eric, and Joshua, one step-daughter Kimberly and eight grandchildren - Pamela, Analeigh, Cassidy Rose, Miette, Vincent, Paxton, River and Savienne.
